Epley Maneuver

My head at 45 degrees to the right
I fell back against the cushion
and watched the classroom spin around me
 
It’s day 6 of this newly-acquired vertigo
and I now believe it’s worse
than any other sickness I’ve encountered
 
Room    shifting
       tilting
my hand reaching out against a wall
to steady me
 
I laid there with my head back
imagined the crystals
         falling
into place
one    after    another
 
Wondered
why we have crystals
in our damn ears
at all?

    I’ve never had vertigo, but several loved ones have suffered . I hope your time with this illness is short lived. Your poem captures the tilting, the hope that things will fall into place and the wondering.

    Yikes. The way you structured this piece, both with language and formatting, made me spin alongside you. My siblings all suffer from vertigo, and I’ve recently had my first two episodes. It sounds horrible to experience it at school. I’m so sorry. Thank you for sharing this painful piece, and I hope you find some relief!

    Yes! I suffered from vertigo once in my life and that was enough. I remember getting out of bed and promptly hitting the floor face first. I hope you recover quickly.

    Have you seen an ENT? You might have an inner ear infection. They can cause dizziness and vertigo w/out pain in the ear. Anyway, hope you find a cure.

      Yes! I have an ENT appointment next week, but unfortunately it’s Telehealth. Ugh, healthcare. Might go to urgent care again this weekend to see. Thank you for your well wishes ❤
